Q: Tell us about yourself, who is Andreas?

A: That is a tough one. I will just answer with a famous quote: “It’s not who i am underneath, but what i do, that defines me”.

Q: How did you get into programming? How long has it been?

A: I guess it all started with the famous autoexec.bat/config.sys fun, back in the days when we had to modify/optimize those files to get a game running in DOS. For me, that was already part of the game.

That was 20 years ago, but i started to work as a programmer only 10 years ago – after a school for electrical engineering and after studying media technology.

Q: What do you do for a living?

A: I am working as a web developer in an advertisement agency, most projects are SPAs with Social Media APIs, about 90% of my work is frontend. The backend part is mostly just interfaces to a database and scripts for cron jobs. Sometimes i do some freelance work too, but only if the project is fun and worth it 🙂

Q: What do you do for fun? We noticed a bike on your profile.

A: Muay Thai, Running, Hiking, Programming (yeah, it´s not just my job), …

Q: You have been working for LimeSoda since 2006, What is your role there?

A: Well, i covered that one in another question, i guess. I am basically a web developer and i am the frontend tech lead of LimeSoda. I am also responsible for training at LimeSoda, as i am pretty “up to date” with all the frontend stuff all the time.

Q: What was the phenomenon of #TheLimeAwakens

A: Well, my boss is a Star Wars fan, so it was obvious that sooner or later our yearly christmas theme will be it. We create a video around the topic every year, with everyone in the company as actors.

In 2015, it was perfect timing to use the new Star Wars movie, in 2014 the theme was “From Dusk till Dawn”. You can watch all the movies here, have fun 🙂

Q: Are you a Star Wars Junkie?

A: Not really, to be honest. Don´t tell my boss though 😉 – I mean, i do like Star Wars, but i am not really a movie guy. I like to binge-watch series, movies are over after 2 hours.

Q: Tell us about Devils Heaven?

A: There’s not much going on over there, i started the Blog a long time ago because everyone wanted to have his own blog back then. I only write a new post once in a while, but i do have a nice amount of daily visitors.

The main topics are Raspberry PI and the Facebook API. I would like to write more about node.js too though. It´s perfect in combination with the Raspberry.

That reminds me, i did want to write a new blogpost 🙂

Q: What drives you to become admin of multiple FB groups? How do you manage them with time and challenges?

A: Very good question. Sometimes it feels like i am the only admin in those groups, because member requests are piling up and there is a LOT of spam.

Don’t ask me how i manage it, i don’t have an answer for that 🙂 – it’s better than seeing spam and not being able to do anything except for reporting it though…

Q: What’s with your passion of JavaScript?

A: It´s easy to learn, it runs natively in the browser, you can even use it server side with node.js, and you can program pretty much everything with it nowadays, including microcontrollers. It´s just THE best option for new developers. Learn one language, do everything 🙂

Q: Do you have any formal education in programming?

A: I did not attend any programming-specific school, but it was part of my education. Learned it the hard way, but it’s the best one anyway. Everyone can learn it without attending any school, you just need Google and the right books 🙂
